This walk down the lower part of the Water Of Leith (River Leith) is a worthy rival to the Kelvin River walk in Glasgow... but even better. This walk takes in Dean village too. A great walk and the best river walk in Scotland.

The walk is on a good path with some cobblestones and tarmac included. This is a walk for the whole family, multi-generational. This walk is both very easy and scenic.




CityLink Bus 900 Glasgow Buchanan Street to New Bridge Edinburgh 2 - 4 times an hour.

Ask the bus driver to stop at the New Bridge. This is a stop 5 - 10 before the Newmarket train station. Jump off at this bridge and the walk/path is signposted from here.
The river is a bit grubby for the first hundreds of yards/meters before it becomes a lot prettier and interesting.







The world famous Dean Village comes into view here, and the path is now full of tourists from all over the world. The river/walk is indeed very scenic here and worthy all the effort to get here. The path from Dean Village is a bit difficult to find. But ask the locals for directions.



The river/path is pretty wild and very wild for bein a river crossing through a big city like Edinburgh. The only sound here is the river itself and the tourists. The ambience is really impressive.



The river opens up and becomes a wide river on the final half a mile/ one km of the walk. It becomes more urban with some great buildings and the ocean straight ahead.





At the end of the path at Ocean Drive, follow the tram lines to the right for 200 yards/meters. The walk ends on the tram stop here.
