This walk is a bit of a weird walk. But I love to explore new places and new walks.
To get to the start point at Uplawmoor Hotel, a taxi/good friend with a car, is required. The walk itself is very good. There are some great views here and Uplawmoor is a charming village.

Pretty Hard

There is one big climb here. The one from Caldwell Golf Club up to the start of Sergeantlaw Road. The rest of the walk is undulating and flat. A good fitness test. Plenty of water is required on this walk, who are on tarmac surface and mostly on narrow single-track roads.

Leaving the taxi behind at the Uplawmoor Hotel, take the road to the left on the Neilston Road. This road takes you through this quaint villag and down to Lochilbo Road. Take this road to the left. Cross the railway bridge and take the road to the right to Caldwell Golf Club. Pass the clubhouse and start to climb this Caldwell - Howwood road for half a mile / 1 km. Take the Old Barn Road, signposted, to the right. This single-track road is pretty steep in the beginning. The views are normally great. But not on a rainy day as in the case of the day I walked it. Uplawmoor can be spotted on this picture.




The road is twisting and has some good scenery past a racing horses training facility. There are a lot of other farm animals around on these farm fields too. As I discovered, that also includes charging big bulls. I was charged by one of them. Thankfully, the barbed wire fence saved my day. We had a bit of a standoff at each side of this fence and I did let him know what I thought about his behaviour. Not printable views, I am afraid.
The small road ends up on the Gleniffer Road.



Follow this road for 400 yards/meters before you walk straight on at the beginning of Sergeantlaw Road. This single-track road is slightly undulating past a couple of farms.



At the next crossroad, at Middleton Kennels, take the Fereneze Road to the right. This road climbs up to a hilltop before it descends to a crossroad. Uplawmoor can be viewed to the right here. Take the road to the left in the direction of Glasgow. There is a small climb here before the road crests a hill.



The Fereneze Road now descends with some great views over Neilston and Glasgow. Continue straight ahead at the next crossroad and then take the road to the right down towards Neilston and then straight on past the next crossroad. There are a steep climb at the sewerage works just after a white bridge. The climb takes you past the Gateside village and down towards Barrhead on a slightly steep climb. Follow the road to the end where this walk ends at the Barrhead train station and bus stops.
