Ayrshire

5 miles / 9 km

A lovely flat walk on mostly sand. This is a great walk with some superb views towards Isle Of Arran.

Easy

This walk is mostly on the beach between Troon and Irvine. It is vital that you check out the tides before starting the walk. Please also note that sand can be a tricky surface and is easily tiring. The clue is to find the firmest sand and stick to that. As always, bring plenty of drink and good shoes here.

Train from Glasgow/Paisley 2 times an hour to Troon railway station.

This walk starts from Troon railway station. Cross the railway line under the railway line inside the station over to the other side of the railway and walk the Barassie Street to the right down the hill towards the sea. After half a mile/ 1 km, you are at the sea and the beach.

Take the road to the right here and follow this road before the path starts. Follow the path along North Shore Road and then Beach Road. Follow this road to the end, to the gates where you cross over to the path.

Cross the river/stream/burn which runs out to the sea here on the path before you cross over to the beach for the real walk on the beach. A 3 miles / 5 km long walk. The pictures below are from this beach.

At the end of the walk, you have to climb the stairs. A 100 yards/meters detour to the molo here is a must-do before you head up the River Irvine to Irvine railway station. Follow the river here.

The two pictures below are from this charming walk up the river. The last picture is looking back down the river.

The walk from the beach up along the river is a nice bonus but also a welcome bonus. Please make sure you visit the Puffers Cafe & Bistro, which has some nice souvenirs (including fridge magnets... my big weakness) and a book shop. A visit here is highly recommended before heading up Montgomery Street to the signposted Irvine train station where this walk ends.

Train to Glasgow/Paisley 2 times an hour.

Enjoy the walk !!
