This walk is on the old railway line between Kilmarnock and Irvine. A long disused railway line now made into an excellent walking and cycling path. The path is in the bottom of a shallow valley and is well signposted. The quality of the path is impressive. This is an OK walk and a good workout.

Easy
This is a long walk. I would still label it as an easy walk. Tedious, long and a bit dull but still easy. The walk has no hills at all. Bring lots of water on this walk.

Train to Kilmarnock railway station from Glasgow Central/Barrhead 2 times an hour.
I am pretty fond of this half an hour long train journey from Glasgow/Barrhead down to Kilmarnock. The walk therefore starts on the train. Choose a seat on the right side of the train as the views are great towards the Irish Sea and Isle Of Arran here.
When stepping of the train in Kilmarnock, take the exit to the left and head up Hill Street past the Ayrshire College. After 300 yards/meters, take Balmoral Road to the left. This road ends up in an industrial estate and the beginning of the Kilmarnock - Irvine path.

At the Munro Avenue/Western Road main road, cross this road at the traffic lights and take this road to the left down to the signposted start of the Kilmarnock - Irvine path.
The path takes you out of Kilmarnock past some industrial areas before the path enters rural Ayrshire. The rest of the path is impressively well signposted with the exception of the final 200 yards/meters to the Irvine railway station. The next three pictures give you a flavour of this walk.

The walk ends by crossing River Irvine as I have done on the picture below. The path on the other side of this river is slightly confusing and could have been better.

Head for the Irvine shopping malls and in particular, the big ASDA supermarket. Irvine train station is just behind the ASDA supermarket. Head for this train station and the platforms there where this walk ends.
Train to Kilwinning/Paisley/Glasgow 2 times an hour.
Enjoy the walk !!
