Ayrshire

A nice walk along the seaside. The walk is mostly flat on esplanades and paths. This is a very good walk and among the best on the Ayrshire coast. It is a must-do walk.

Easy

This flat walk has a mix of surfaces. Tarmac, gravel and sand (if low tide). This walk is best on low tide so keep an eye on the tides (BBC Scotland) before leaving for this walk. Good shoes and plenty of drink are required here as this walk is exposed to the sun.

Train from Glasgow/Paisley to Ayr 2 times an hour

Leave the train and then take Smith Street to the first street to the left, Kyle Street and then High Street to the square there along the river and then cross the river on the New Bridge Street onto Main Street and follow that to a crossroad where you take the street to the left, Peebles Street to Waggon Road to the left. Walk two streets down to Weir Road and follow this to a crossroad. Take the road down to the left, the Saltpans Road down to the esplanade down at the seafront.

.... Or you can jump of the train on Newton On Ayr, the stop before Ayr on the train down from Glasgow/Paisley and save yourself for all the walk through Ayr. From Newton-On-Ayr train station, take the road to the right up Falkland Park Road. Then the next road to the right, Limekiln Road over the railway line down towards the sea and then cross another railway line through a right and a left bend to Saltpans Road and the aptly named Promenade, the esplanade which will take you along the sea towards Troon.




At the end of Promenade, there is a gate you have to cross through, which will take you up to a path. See below..



After passing the golf course to the right, the good path goes a bit inland before it rejoins the sea at Prestwick and becomes an esplanade again.






Walk to the big yellow building, KidzPlay building which also have a good cafeteria if this is what you want. On the car park here, 150 yards/meters before this big yellow building, climb the staircase up to the path past this building. This is vitally important as there is no paths past this yellow building.

Follow this path, with the golf course to the right, to a right turn bend which is taking the walk over a river and then to a tarmac road next to a caravan park. Follow the path next to the caravan park entrance towards the sand dunes. If low tide, take this short sandy path down to the beach. See picture below.



The walk on the beach all the way to Troon is on a low tide, a great walk. Long but great. The views towards Isle Of Arran are great.



The long walk on the sand ends up at the South Beach Kiosk which is the turning off point for the walk up to Troon railway station. Follow St. Meddans Street to the right up to the Troon railway station signpost and walk up the small hill to the railway station where this walk ends.

Train to Paisley/Glasgow 2 times an hour.
